10th Annual Global Conference on Energy Efficiency Kicks Off in Brussels with Over 700 Participants

The 10th Annual Global Conference on Energy Efficiency is currently underway at the EGG Centre in Brussels, Belgium, gathering over 700 participants from more than 90 countries worldwide. The event boasts delegations from 55 governments alongside representatives from over 40 major international companies, creating a dynamic platform for critical discussions on energy efficiency and sustainable development.

European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Mr. Dan Jørgensen, officially opened the conference with a compelling call to action, stressing that “Energy efficiency has to be at the core of our assets.” His message highlighted the urgent need for countries and institutions to prioritize energy efficiency in their development and investment strategies, particularly amid ongoing global energy challenges and mounting climate concerns.

Adding weight to the conversation, Dr. Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), emphasized three essential pillars that energy policies must address: availability, competitiveness, and energy security. Dr. Birol underscored that energy efficiency stands out as the most immediate and effective policy tool for governments to achieve these goals. “Energy efficiency must be the top policy that countries consider,” he asserted, urging a global shift towards more efficient energy use.

Lesotho’s presence at this influential gathering is marked by the participation of His Majesty King Letsie III, accompanied by Dr. Retselisitsoe Matlanyane, Minister of Finance and Development Planning, and Hon. Mohlomi Moleko, Minister of Natural Resources. They received a warm welcome from Her Excellency Mrs. Mantoetsi Mohatonyane, Lesotho’s Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union. This high-level delegation underscores Lesotho’s dedication to advancing climate action, green development, and sustainable energy solutions on the international stage.

The conference serves as a critical forum for sharing innovative ideas, policies, and technologies aimed at boosting energy efficiency worldwide. With energy demand growing and climate risks escalating, the event’s focus on actionable strategies is both timely and essential. Lesotho’s active involvement signals the Kingdom’s commitment to aligning with global efforts to create a more sustainable and energy-efficient future.

As discussions continue at the EGG Centre, the 10th Annual Global Conference on Energy Efficiency is poised to inspire stronger collaboration among governments, industry leaders, and international organizations, setting the stage for meaningful progress in energy efficiency and climate resilience globally.
