Lesotho Ministry of Agriculture Visits Growing Nations Project to Promote Sustainable Youth Agriculture

On 14 January 2026, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition visited the Growing Nations project in Maphutseng, Mohales’Hoek. The visit aimed to assess ongoing initiatives focused on sustainable agriculture and youth empowerment in the community.
Mr. Moliko Lekhera, project manager, highlighted that the Growing Nations project seeks to educate local communities and young people on sustainable farming practices. The project is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to generate income, create jobs, and ensure food security at the local level.
While the project has made significant progress in community education, Mr. Lekhera noted that youth have not yet participated in the formal two-year training program. Upon completion, this program will prepare young farmers to launch their own agricultural businesses, fostering entrepreneurship and self-reliance.
The Ministry’s visit underscores the government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that combine sustainable agriculture with youth development. By promoting hands-on training and entrepreneurial opportunities, the Growing Nations project aims to strengthen local food systems while empowering the next generation of agricultural leaders in Lesotho.
This engagement aligns with national priorities to enhance food security, stimulate rural economies, and encourage sustainable farming practices across the country.
