2026 National Quality Awards Launched to Boost Business Excellence in Lesotho

The Minister of Trade, Industry and Business Development today officially launched the 2026 National Quality Awards during a press conference held at the Ministry of Trade in Maseru. The launch marks the return of a key national platform aimed at recognising and promoting excellence in business across Lesotho.

In his address, the Minister of Trade, Industry and Business Development, Honourable Mokhethi Shelile, announced that the Awards Giving Ceremony will take place on 28 January 2026. He confirmed that the awards will recognise outstanding performance across several categories, including Best Product of the Year, Best Exporter of the Year, Best Service Provider of the Year, Best Individual Contributor of the Year and Company of the Year.

The Minister explained that the National Quality Awards had been paused for several years due to financial constraints. These challenges were later intensified by the COVID-19 pandemic, which placed additional pressure on both government resources and the private sector. He noted that the decision to reinstate the awards follows a renewed understanding of their role in motivating businesses and strengthening confidence within the economy.

According to Honourable Shelile, the awards are intended to encourage innovation, competitiveness and high standards in local industries. He stressed that recognising excellence helps businesses improve quality, expand markets and contribute more effectively to national development.

The Minister further announced that application forms for interested participants will be available at the Ministry of Trade offices in all 10 districts of Lesotho. This approach aims to ensure equal access for businesses operating in both urban and rural areas. He confirmed that the deadline for submission of completed application forms is 12 January 2026.

The relaunch of the National Quality Awards comes at a time when the government is seeking to stimulate economic growth and support business recovery. The Ministry believes that celebrating success stories will inspire other enterprises to improve performance, create jobs and strengthen Lesotho’s position in regional and international markets.

With clear timelines and nationwide access to applications, the 2026 National Quality Awards are expected to attract wide participation and restore the awards as a respected symbol of business excellence in Lesotho.
