Maletsunyane Braai Festival Highlights Lesotho Crafts and Environmental Stewardship

The Maletsunyane Braai Festival is showcasing the best of Lesotho’s handmade crafts. Craftsmen and women are exhibiting and selling their work, from traditional Basotho blankets to unique souvenirs. Visitors have the opportunity to support local talent and take home a piece of Lesotho’s culture.
Alongside the celebrations, the ReNOKA team and the Ministry of Forestry and Environment are promoting responsible enjoyment of the festival. They reminded attendees that every piece of wood used for braais comes from natural resources and every produce cooked comes from the soil. Healthy land and clean water are essential for sustaining these cultural and culinary experiences.
The community of Semonkong, including youth, herders, and festival attendees, joined efforts to protect the environment. Activities included clearing invasive species and restoring rangelands. Healthier rangelands improve grazing for livestock and ensure cleaner water for the community.
The festival’s focus on environmental stewardship highlights the link between culture, livelihoods, and nature. Organizers and participants are committed to leaving Maletsunyane greener and cleaner, ensuring the natural beauty that supports the festival remains for future generations.
The partnership between the festival, ReNOKA, and the Ministry of Forestry and Environment demonstrates how celebrations can coexist with sustainable land and water management, creating a lasting impact on the community and environment.
