Minister of Agriculture Encourages Farmers During Summer Cropping Season

As farmers begin the summer cropping season, the Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition, Mr. Thabo Mofosi, delivered a message of encouragement and reassurance. He emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting agriculture and addressing past challenges faced by farmers.
“I admit that our plans and controls in terms of delivering fertilisers previously have affected our farmers negatively, but it is our fervent hope that history will not repeat itself,” Minister Mofosi stated.
He explained that the Ministry has strengthened its planning and control measures this year. The objective is to ensure farmers across the country can access fertilisers without traveling to urban centers. The Ministry is prioritizing resource centers that previously experienced shortages, aiming to deliver supplies promptly.
Minister Mofosi also highlighted the importance of recent rainfall, describing it as a blessing for farmers. He urged farmers to take advantage of the favorable conditions and begin planting immediately to combat food insecurity and hunger.
The Minister’s message sought to instill confidence in farmers, assuring them of government support, timely access to inputs, and the importance of proactive planting during the summer cropping season.
