Lesotho Hosts Validation of Draft Report on Africa’s Digital Transformation Strategy 2020–2030

Lesotho proudly hosted the Validation of the Draft Report on the Assessment of the Digital Transformation Strategy (DTS) 2020–2030 Implementation in Africa at Lancers Inn, Maseru. The event brought together distinguished representatives from across the continent and international organisations, highlighting Lesotho’s growing role in Africa’s digital agenda.

Delivering the opening remarks on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Information, Communication, Science, Technology and Innovation, Principal Secretary Kanono Leronti Ramashamole welcomed participants just days after the country’s 59th Independence celebrations. He emphasized the session’s significance in evaluating progress toward a digitally inclusive and innovative Africa.

Discussions during the event focused on key areas of digital transformation, including digital public infrastructure, responsible artificial intelligence, and innovation ecosystems. Experts shared insights on how these elements can drive socio-economic development, improve governance, and expand access to technology across the continent.

Lesotho continues to demonstrate its commitment to bridging the digital divide. The country has implemented e-government services, digital skills development programs, innovation hubs, and rural connectivity initiatives. These efforts aim to ensure that citizens from all regions benefit from technology and can participate in Africa’s digital economy.

In his address, Mr Ramashamole drew a parallel between Africa’s independence movements and today’s digital transformation. He encouraged nations to embrace a new era of “digital freedom.” He stated, “If the 1960s were the decade of political freedom, let the 2020s be the decade of digital freedom — when Africa rises together, connected, empowered, and united through technology.”

The validation session positions Lesotho as a key contributor to continental digital development. By hosting the event, the country reinforces its vision of a digitally empowered Africa, where innovation, connectivity, and responsible technology adoption drive sustainable growth and inclusivity.
