Lesotho Ambassador Engages Ethiopian Medical and Industrial Sector to Boost Healthcare and Trade

H.E Ntsiuoa Sekete, Ambassador of Lesotho to Ethiopia, accompanied by Brigadier General Ketseletso Mofoka, visited Dire Dawa in eastern Ethiopia to engage with a leading medical and industrial company. The company specializes in medical equipment supply, pharmaceuticals, and manufacturing services, aligning with Lesotho’s priorities in healthcare access, industrialization, and technology transfer.

The visit had several key objectives. First, the delegation explored partnership opportunities in medical supplies, hospital equipment, and health professional training. This aligns with Lesotho’s goal of improving healthcare access and capacity across the country.

Second, the engagement aimed to benchmark Ethiopia’s industrial and healthcare innovations to support Lesotho’s National Strategic Development Plan II (#NSDPII). Lessons from Ethiopia’s experience are expected to enhance Lesotho’s industrial and healthcare sectors.

Third, the visit sought to strengthen bilateral trade and investment ties under the African Continental Free Trade Area (#AfCFTA). By fostering economic cooperation, both countries can benefit from expanded markets, technology transfer, and joint ventures.

Finally, the delegation positioned Lesotho as a reliable partner for Ethiopian industries seeking to expand into Southern Africa. The engagement reflects Lesotho’s commitment to economic diplomacy and strategic partnerships.

This initiative demonstrates Lesotho’s focus on advancing industrial growth, creating jobs, and ensuring affordable healthcare for Basotho. By combining international collaboration with national development priorities, the country aims to strengthen its economy, improve healthcare access, and foster long-term industrial growth.
