District Youth Innovation Media Drive Inspires Butha-Buthe Youth to Embrace Innovation at UniPod Hub

The youth of Butha-Buthe are being encouraged to harness the power of innovation and creativity through the District Youth Innovation Media Drive (DYIMD), a dynamic roadshow aimed at empowering young minds across Lesotho. Held under the theme of promoting homegrown ideas, the initiative is rallying youth to make use of the UniPod Hub—a cutting-edge innovation space designed to support young entrepreneurs and inventors.
Organised by the Ministry of Information, Communication, Science, Technology and Innovation (MICSTI), with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), American Corner, and the Ministry of Gender, Youth and Social Development, the campaign is set to ignite a wave of innovation among Lesotho’s rising generation.
The DYIMD roadshow is a national call to action, designed to unearth and celebrate young changemakers who are using innovation and technology to solve real-world problems. By encouraging youth to explore the tools and resources available at the UniPod Hub, the initiative aims to provide them with a springboard to develop scalable ideas, collaborate with like-minded peers, and gain mentorship from professionals.
The focus is firmly aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 9, which champions Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. Through this alignment, the initiative is helping Lesotho build a resilient economy driven by homegrown solutions and the creativity of its youth.
“We believe the future of Lesotho lies in the innovative potential of its young people,” said a representative from MICSTI during the roadshow stop in Butha-Buthe. “The UniPod Hub is here to give them the tools, space, and support to bring their ideas to life.”
The UniPod Hub provides a collaborative environment equipped with modern technologies, workspaces, and entrepreneurial support. It’s a place where young people can brainstorm, prototype, and pitch their projects—turning ideas into impact.
As the DYIMD continues its journey through other districts, more youth are expected to engage with the initiative, bringing attention to the powerful role of innovation in nation-building. With growing support from public and international partners, Lesotho is investing in the minds that will shape its future—one idea at a time.
