WASCO Tackles Burst Water Pipes in Villages Amid High Pressure and Cold Weather

The Water and Sewage Company (WASCO) has confirmed ongoing efforts to repair burst water pipes in several villages, following complaints from residents about prolonged delays in addressing the issue. This update was provided by WASCO Public Relations Manager, Mrs. Lineo Moqasa, during an interview with the Agency.
According to Mrs. Moqasa, the affected villages include Ha Foso, Marabeng, Ts’enola, Ha Ts’osane, and some areas within Naleli. She explained that the recent bursts are largely due to the combination of high water pressure and the impact of cold weather conditions.
“WASCO recently installed new pipes under the Greater Maseru Water Supply Project, designed to carry a significantly higher volume of water,” Mrs. Moqasa said. “However, the weight and pressure from this increased water flow have overwhelmed the existing pipes in these villages, causing them to burst.”
The company acknowledges that these incidents have caused inconvenience for affected residents, some of whom reported that repairs took several days to commence after their complaints. Mrs. Moqasa assured that WASCO is actively working to resolve these challenges.
To mitigate the problem of high pressure, WASCO is currently testing various methods aimed at reducing the flow of water through the pipes, thereby preventing future bursts. These measures are part of a broader commitment to maintain a reliable and efficient water supply across the region.
WASCO urges affected communities to continue reporting any pipe bursts or water supply issues promptly so that repairs can be expedited. The company remains dedicated to improving water infrastructure and ensuring uninterrupted service despite the challenges posed by environmental factors.
This proactive approach highlights WASCO’s responsiveness and dedication to sustaining water supply systems critical to the well-being of residents in these villages.
