Lesotho Launches Intellectual Property Week 2025 Under Theme “Rise to the Top” to Boost Innovation and National IP Policy

The Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Lira Ralebese, officially opened Intellectual Property (IP) Week at a workshop held in Maseru on Tuesday. This year’s event was launched under the theme “Rise to the Top,” reflecting Lesotho’s commitment to strengthening its intellectual property framework and fostering innovation across the country.

The workshop aims to support Lesotho’s ongoing efforts to establish a comprehensive national IP policy that will provide a clear legal and institutional framework for the protection and management of intellectual property rights. By building the capacity of key stakeholders, the initiative seeks to empower individuals, businesses, and institutions to effectively generate, protect, and manage their IP assets, contributing to economic growth and technological advancement.

Furthermore, the event facilitates collaboration between national and international IP stakeholders, promoting partnerships that can enhance the country’s participation in the global IP system. Encouraging the integration of international intellectual property principles into Lesotho’s research and innovation sectors is a critical objective of the workshop, aimed at boosting competitiveness and attracting investment.

Mr. Ralebese emphasized the importance of intellectual property in driving creativity, innovation, and development. He urged all participants to actively engage in the discussions and take advantage of the training opportunities to build a stronger IP culture within Lesotho.
