BEDCO, RSL and Standard Lesotho Bank Unveil M1.4 Million “Bacha Entrepreneurship Project” to Power Basotho Youth Innovation

The Basotho Enterprise Development Corporation (BEDCO), operating under Lesotho’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Small Businesses, has joined forces with Revenue Services Lesotho (RSL) and Standard Lesotho Bank to launch the Bacha Entrepreneurship Project Call for Proposals. Introduced in Maseru on 3 June 2025, the initiative invites Basotho aged 21 – 35 to submit business concepts that can generate jobs, reduce poverty and accelerate economic growth.
Announcing the programme, BEDCO Senior Manager of Public Relations, Mamahapela Mukuoane, described the partnership as a potent example of how public‑private collaboration can unlock opportunities for young innovators. She noted that nurturing entrepreneurship is critical to building a vibrant, self‑reliant economy.
RSL representative Tšeliso Mphane emphasised that the project also aims to cultivate a culture of tax compliance among start‑ups, enabling small ventures to thrive in the formal economy. Meanwhile, Standard Lesotho Bank Acting Head of Marketing, Manyathela Kheleli, confirmed the bank will tailor financial products and provide hands‑on mentorship to successful applicants, giving fledgling founders the tools and confidence to scale.
With a commitment of M1.4 million in seed funding and support services, the call prioritises proposals in agriculture, technology, creative industries and green businesses—sectors viewed as pivotal for sustainable growth. Submissions are open until 24 July 2025, after which shortlisted entrepreneurs will receive funding, expert guidance and ongoing business‑development assistance.
BEDCO urges eligible Basotho youth to seize this opportunity to transform bold ideas into viable enterprises capable of uplifting families, communities and the nation at large.
