Lesotho Revenue Services and Lesotho Institute of Accountants Empower Taxpayers Through Nationwide Tax Literacy Workshops

The Lesotho Revenue Services (RSL), in partnership with the Lesotho Institute of Accountants (LIA), has launched a series of nationwide tax literacy workshops aimed at empowering taxpayers with up-to-date information on tax compliance. These workshops are part of RSL’s annual filing season campaign, which began on April 28 and will run until May 8 in the Maseru district.

According to a statement from RSL, the workshops are designed to simplify the often complex tax filing and payment processes, ensuring that taxpayers fully comply with Lesotho’s tax laws. They aim to provide clear guidance on how to accurately complete income tax return forms and introduce more convenient and flexible electronic filing options to facilitate the tax filing process.

The tax filing season, which runs annually from April 1 to June 30, is a critical period for all taxpayers, including individuals, small businesses, and corporations, to file their income tax returns and settle any taxes due. Through these workshops, RSL and LIA are focusing on making the filing process more accessible and user-friendly, while also promoting a deeper understanding of tax obligations.

The workshops are targeting key economic sectors that significantly contribute to Lesotho’s economy, such as hospitality, construction, commercial property, professional services, and other service providers like security, catering, and car rentals. By reaching out to these sectors, RSL aims to equip a wide range of taxpayers with the practical knowledge needed to manage their tax responsibilities efficiently.

In addition to providing essential tax filing guidance, the sessions highlight the growing importance of electronic filing. With the increasing availability of online tools, taxpayers now have the option to file their returns and make payments electronically, offering greater flexibility and reducing the potential for errors or delays.

This initiative is a reflection of RSL’s continued commitment to fostering a culture of voluntary tax compliance. By offering these workshops, RSL hopes to empower Basotho to manage their tax obligations with confidence and accuracy, ultimately contributing to the country’s economic growth and development.

RSL’s efforts are part of an ongoing strategy to improve tax literacy across Lesotho. By equipping citizens with the necessary tools and knowledge, the tax authority seeks to ensure that more people can participate in the formal economy, thus boosting national revenue and supporting the sustainability of public services.

These workshops are not only beneficial for individuals but also for businesses, providing them with the resources to manage their tax responsibilities in an organized and timely manner. As the filing season progresses, RSL continues to encourage all taxpayers to take advantage of the workshops and ensure they remain compliant with the country’s tax laws.

With the support of RSL and LIA, it is hoped that these workshops will lay the foundation for a more tax-compliant nation, where individuals and businesses alike are well-informed and proactive in fulfilling their fiscal duties.
