King Letsie III Applauds Nutrition Efforts During Inspiring Visit to Mekaling Exhibition

His Majesty King Letsie III visited the Nutrition Club Exhibition at the Mekaling Resource Centre in Mohale’s Hoek, where he praised the growing nutrition movement in Lesotho and honored a local club for its outstanding contribution to healthy living and food production.
The event, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition, brought together farmers, health advocates, and community members committed to improving nutrition across the country. His Majesty, a long-time advocate for food security, expressed pride in the strides being made by Basotho in understanding the value of nutrition in everyday life.
During the exhibition, the King recognized a local nutrition club for its role in producing healthy food and promoting balanced diets within the community. Calling their work “vital to the health and future of the nation,” he emphasized the importance of increased food production not only to improve public health but also to support the national economy.
“This is more than just feeding people—it’s about building a strong, self-reliant Lesotho,” His Majesty said, addressing an audience of local farmers, students, and nutrition advocates. His remarks sparked motivation and pride among the attendees, who saw the royal recognition as a meaningful affirmation of their work.
The exhibition showcased a wide range of locally produced, nutrient-rich foods, including traditional crops, preserved foods, and meal preparation demonstrations. His Majesty took time to visit each display, engaging with the participants and encouraging them to continue sharing knowledge and best practices with others in their communities.
Malerato Lekhooa, the District Agricultural Officer of Mohale’s Hoek, led the event. She highlighted the link between good nutrition and progress in education, health, and productivity. “Nutrition is not just a need—it’s a basic right,” she said, urging communities to make better use of local resources to build a healthier future.
Mr. Mokoteli Molomo, a representative of the local nutrition club, welcomed the King and thanked him for his consistent support. “Your Majesty, you are a true Champion of Nutrition. Your encouragement gives us courage and confidence to continue our mission,” he said.
The royal visit has left a lasting impact on the Mekaling community. Farmers and residents said they felt inspired to continue their efforts to produce food, improve health, and support job creation. The King’s words reinforced the idea that sustainable development in Lesotho begins with strong, healthy communities.
As Lesotho continues to face challenges related to food security and economic growth, the commitment shown by the people of Mohale’s Hoek—and the royal endorsement of their efforts—signals a hopeful path forward for a more resilient and nourished nation.
