Lesotho Media Trained Ahead of National Measles and Rubella Vaccination Campaign

Day Two of the media training workshop, hosted by the Ministry of Health and the Department of the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI), placed the spotlight on media engagement ahead of Lesotho’s National Measles and Rubella Vaccination Campaign.

The session targeted journalists and media professionals. It stressed their key role in delivering accurate, timely, and relevant information to the public. Organisers emphasised that strong media support would be vital for the campaign’s success.

Participants received detailed briefings on the importance of immunisation, the campaign’s timeline, and strategies to tackle vaccine misinformation. The training covered how to simplify technical health data, use community radio effectively, and promote clear calls to action in reporting.

Lesotho’s immunisation drive aims to increase uptake, especially among children, and prevent future outbreaks. With vaccine hesitancy on the rise globally, the workshop positioned the media as a frontline ally in building public trust and awareness.

Officials urged journalists to commit to responsible health reporting. By doing so, they can help ensure wide community participation and protect vulnerable groups from preventable diseases.

The National Measles and Rubella Vaccination Campaign is expected to roll out in the coming weeks. The Ministry of Health will continue working with the media to reinforce its outreach efforts.
