Minister of Natural Resources Reaffirms Government Commitment to Expanding Water Accessibility

The Minister of Natural Resources, Mr. Mohlomi Moleko, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding water accessibility and improving related services for communities in urgent need of drinking water. His remarks came during a public gathering held for the Khokhoba community on Monday, where he highlighted the ongoing progress in water availability across the country.
Mr. Moleko explained that the ministry is tasked with ensuring that every community has access to clean and safe water, a critical service for improving the quality of life. However, he acknowledged that much work remains to be done to reach all regions, particularly those most in need. He emphasized that the current government had inherited a range of water expansion projects from previous administrations, and these plans were being actively implemented and expanded.
One of the key projects currently underway is the Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA) Phase II, which has already made significant strides in improving the country’s water infrastructure. According to Mr. Moleko, this project has not only contributed to enhanced water distribution but has also created over 15,000 job opportunities, benefiting local communities.
Additionally, he pointed out that sister projects, such as the Lesotho Lowlands Water Development Projects (LLWDP), hold the potential for further expansion, offering more opportunities for job creation and infrastructure development. The ongoing projects are seen as pivotal steps towards ensuring sustainable water access for all Basotho, especially those living in underserved and remote areas.
In his address, Mr. Moleko reiterated the government’s long-term vision for water security in Lesotho, underscoring the importance of continued investment in water infrastructure to support the nation’s development goals. He assured the Khokhoba community and the rest of the nation that the government remains dedicated to addressing the water needs of its people, working to create an improved and healthier future for all.
