Heavy Rains Worsen Road Conditions in Koma-Koma, Berea District

Persistent rainfall across Lesotho has severely affected road infrastructure, with the Koma-Koma area in Berea district experiencing significant damage to its access roads. The worsening conditions have made it increasingly difficult for residents to reach parts of Nokong, raising concerns over mobility and safety.

Koma-Koma Electoral Division Community Councillor, Mrs. Makatleho Lejaha, described the situation as troubling. She explained that while the major gravel road leading to Nokong was still partially usable a few months ago, recent heavy rains have rendered it nearly impassable.

“The road has deteriorated drastically. There are deep potholes, ravines slicing through the road, and huge stones are now exposed on the surface, making it extremely difficult for vehicles to pass,” she said.

Mrs. Lejaha further reported that in several areas, the land is collapsing onto the road, narrowing the passage and posing danger to road users. The continued erosion is not only reducing the width of the road but also increasing the risk of accidents and further isolating communities.

Residents of Koma-Koma now face major challenges in accessing essential services, transporting goods, and commuting for work or education. Mrs. Lejaha called for urgent government intervention to repair and rehabilitate the damaged roads before the situation worsens.

The community remains hopeful that with timely support, the roads can be restored to ensure safe and reliable access once again.
