SADC to Convene Emergency Meeting on DRC Crisis

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) is set to hold a crucial meeting on Monday to address the worsening crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This gathering follows SADC’s recent decision to withdraw its peacekeeping troops from the conflict-ridden nation.

In his opening remarks, Zimbabwe’s Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ambassador Albert Ranganai Chimbindi, stressed the urgency of the situation. He acknowledged that despite SADC’s interventions, violence in the DRC continues to escalate, posing a serious threat not only to the country itself but to the broader region. Chimbindi urged all SADC member states to work collectively towards a sustainable resolution.

The ongoing instability in the DRC has raised concerns over regional security, economic disruptions, and humanitarian challenges. As SADC seeks to reinforce its commitment to peace and stability, the upcoming discussions are expected to focus on diplomatic efforts, possible security measures, and long-term strategies for addressing the conflict.

With the DRC’s crisis deepening, SADC’s role in fostering stability remains crucial, and the decisions made during this meeting could shape the region’s approach to conflict resolution in the months ahead.
