LOSAI Consultancy Partners with Botha-Bothe Environmental Health Department to Promote WASH in Schools

LOSAI Consultancy, a Kenyan-based company, in collaboration with the Environmental Health Department in Botha-Bothe, is conducting workshops on Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) for 84 schools in the district. The initiative aims to empower students and teachers with essential knowledge on proper sanitation and hygiene practices.
District Environmental Health Manager, Ms. Kananelo Taoana, stated that the Training of Trainers workshop is designed to educate students and teachers who will take on leadership roles in reviving WASH clubs within their schools. This effort is being implemented ahead of the Lesotho Lowlands Water Development and Sanitation Project Phase III (LLWDP III), which is set to provide improved toilet facilities for schools and public areas in the district.
“Education is crucial before infrastructure development takes place so that people understand how to use the facilities properly, ensuring their longevity and fostering appreciation for them,” Ms. Taoana explained.
She further highlighted that workshop participants will serve as WASH ambassadors upon returning to their respective schools, promoting behavioral changes in sanitation and hygiene. “They will establish WASH clubs in their schools and work to shift mindsets toward proper hygiene standards,” she added.
The initiative is expected to have a long-term impact on health and sanitation in schools, ensuring that students and teachers take an active role in maintaining hygiene standards and utilizing new infrastructure effectively.
