Lesotho to Host Screening of 20 Days in Mariupol to Mark Ukraine War Anniversary

In commemoration of the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the EU in Lesotho (#EuinLesotho) and Alliance Française de Maseru will host a special screening of the Oscar-winning documentary 20 Days in Mariupol. The event is set to take place on April 3, 2025, at the National University of Lesotho (NUL).

The screening aims to shed light on the profound human cost of war, offering students and attendees a powerful visual account of the realities faced by civilians in conflict zones. Through this initiative, organizers hope to foster discussions on human rights, war journalism, and the global impact of armed conflicts.

20 Days in Mariupol chronicles the harrowing 2022 siege of Mariupol, a vibrant Ukrainian city that became a symbol of humanitarian tragedy during the early stages of the war. The film, directed by Mstyslav Chernov, captures the devastation, resilience, and suffering of Mariupol’s residents as they endured relentless attacks.

By bringing this award-winning documentary to Lesotho, the EU in Lesotho and Alliance Française de Maseru seek to promote awareness and empathy, emphasizing the importance of peace, dialogue, and the protection of civilians in times of conflict.
