Lesotho to Celebrate Annual Tree Planting Day on March 21

On March 21, 2025, Lesotho will observe its annual tree planting day, with nationwide ceremonies dedicated to environmental conservation. The Maseru district, through the Environmental and Forestry Office, will host its event at Ha-Leutsoa, Ha-Motloheloa.
According to Mr. Lebajoa Mahalefele, Acting Director of Forestry, the event will be led by His Majesty King Letsie III and Prime Minister Ntsokoane Matekane, beginning at 07:00 AM.
As part of the initiative, each district is expected to plant approximately 10,000 trees in designated areas to combat deforestation and promote sustainability. The tree species to be planted include traditional varieties such as cheche, mofifi, and lelothoane, as well as forestry trees like pine and blue gum.
This annual celebration underscores Lesotho’s commitment to environmental preservation and afforestation, ensuring a greener and more sustainable future for generations to come.
