After a devastating windstorm tore off the roof of Malofo Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) School, leaving young learners vulnerable, Member of Parliament for Qalo No. 4, Mr. Dada Jooma, stepped in to fund and oversee its reconstruction. The MP officially handed over the newly renovated school to the community, ensuring that children could resume their education in a safe environment.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Mr. Jooma recalled his immediate response to the disaster. He visited the site upon hearing the news and reached out to the Minister of Education for assistance. However, he was informed that the Ministry could not intervene as the school was not registered under its jurisdiction.
Faced with this challenge, Mr. Jooma took matters into his own hands. “I then realized that it was my responsibility to ensure this project was completed. I was given a quotation of approximately M50,000, which I had to raise, even contributing from my own pocket, to ensure that the children have a proper learning facility. This is the only ECCD school in the area, and it was important to restore it,” he stated.
The community of Malofo expressed deep gratitude for the MP’s intervention. Parents and local leaders lauded his commitment to the education of young children, emphasizing that early childhood education plays a crucial role in shaping their future.
The re-roofing of the school not only restored a learning space but also reinforced the importance of leadership that prioritizes community welfare. Mr. Jooma’s initiative has set an example of dedication and swift action in addressing urgent needs.
As the children returned to their classrooms under a secure roof, the handover ceremony stood as a testament to the power of community-driven solutions in ensuring access to quality education, even in the face of adversity.
