The visit, organized by the Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA), highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring the continued success and sustainability of this major transboundary initiative. The inspection underscored the importance of continuous investment in maintenance to guarantee the efficiency and longevity of the water transfer system.

Beyond infrastructure, discussions also focused on the socio-economic impact of the project, particularly in terms of livelihood restoration for communities affected by its implementation. The Minister reaffirmed the government’s dedication to ensuring that local communities benefit from the project through employment opportunities, improved infrastructure, and sustainable development initiatives.

The tour and subsequent deliberations reflect Lesotho’s proactive approach in managing the LHWP to maximize both economic and social gains. As the project advances, the government remains committed to enhancing its positive impact while safeguarding the interests of Basotho communities.
