Lesotho High Commission in Pretoria Warns Basotho Against Fake SA ID Offers

The Office of the High Commission of the Kingdom of Lesotho in Pretoria has issued a warning to the general public, particularly Basotho working in South Africa, regarding misleading social media messages promising opportunities to acquire South African national identity (ID) documents.
In a public notice, the High Commission cautioned against fraudulent messages circulating in various WhatsApp groups, labeling them as false and deceptive. The office emphasized that these messages are part of a scam aimed at misleading and robbing unsuspecting individuals.
The High Commission further highlighted that such matters require legal intervention, as they not only cause confusion but also expose individuals to potential financial and legal risks. It reassured the public that any official discussions or agreements regarding documentation for Basotho in South Africa would be communicated through formal channels by the governments of both countries.
Citizens have been urged to remain vigilant and to verify any information related to immigration and national identification through official government sources. The office also advised Basotho not to fall prey to individuals or groups exploiting their immigration status for personal gain.
The Lesotho High Commission reiterated its commitment to protecting the interests of Basotho living and working in South Africa, ensuring that they receive accurate and reliable information concerning their legal status and documentation.
