Basotho Youth Encouraged to Pursue Entrepreneurship Amid Rising Unemployment

With youth unemployment remaining a pressing challenge in Lesotho, young people are being encouraged to explore entrepreneurship as a viable alternative. Beyond providing self-sustenance, entrepreneurship also creates opportunities for employment, contributing to economic growth.
Speaking in an interview with the Agency on Monday, the Managing Director of Pheha Plastic, Ms. Limpho Thoahlane, highlighted the potential for youth to establish sustainable businesses, especially in an era where technology has made skills and resources more accessible. Pheha Plastic, a recycling company, is among the growing enterprises leveraging innovation to create solutions while generating employment.
Ms. Thoahlane acknowledged that financial constraints remain a significant hurdle for many aspiring entrepreneurs. However, she emphasized that the willingness to start, regardless of limited resources, is crucial. She encouraged young people to take advantage of available digital tools, training programs, and mentorship opportunities to develop and grow their businesses.
As more young Basotho venture into entrepreneurship, they not only address their personal financial challenges but also contribute to broader economic development. The call to embrace business ownership serves as a reminder that, despite challenges, innovation and determination can lead to success in today’s evolving economic landscape.
