Lesotho is actively participating in the 64th session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD64), held from 2–10 February 2026 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The session focuses on advancing social development and social justice through coordinated, equitable, and inclusive policies. Discussions this year emphasize eradicating poverty, strengthening human dignity, and building resilient care and support systems. CSocD64 also serves as a follow-up to the Second World Summit for Social Development and supports global efforts to accelerate the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Lesotho’s involvement demonstrates its commitment to contributing to international dialogue on social protection and inclusive growth.

Representing the Minister of Gender, Youth and Social Development, Honourable Pitso Lesaoana, Lesotho’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Matete ’Nena, delivered the country’s National Statement on 4 February 2026. The statement outlined ongoing initiatives to expand access to essential services, strengthen social safety nets, and promote inclusive economic participation.

Ambassador ’Nena also underscored Lesotho’s commitment to working collaboratively with international partners to foster inclusive and sustainable development. He stressed the need for coordinated policies that address both immediate social challenges and long-term structural inequalities. By aligning national priorities with global frameworks, Lesotho aims to create a system where social protection is universal and opportunities are accessible to all citizens. The country continues to prioritize strategies that enhance resilience and promote dignity for every individual.

The session provides a platform for Lesotho to share experiences, exchange best practices, and engage with other Member States on innovative approaches to social development. It also allows the country to highlight lessons learned from national programs and advocate for policies that strengthen social justice worldwide. Participation in CSocD64 reinforces Lesotho’s role in global discussions on poverty reduction, inclusive growth, and equitable development.

Concluding his statement, Ambassador ’Nena affirmed Lesotho’s readiness to collaborate with all Member States to advance a future defined by freedom, equality, and opportunity for every person.
