Disaster Management Authority Acquires New Fleet for Efficient Operations

The Disaster Management Authority (DMA) in Maseru received three new vehicles on Friday, a strategic purchase aimed at improving the efficiency of its daily operations. The fleet consists of two Toyota twin-cab bakkies and one Toyota Fortuner SUV, purchased at a total cost of M2.2 million.

Enhancing Service Delivery
Speaking to the media, DMA CEO Mr. Reatile Ellias highlighted the significance of the acquisition. He explained that the authority’s operations heavily depend on reliable transportation, as much of its work involves traveling across the country to manage disaster-related issues and coordinate responses.

“With these vehicles, we expect smoother and more efficient operations,” said Mr. Ellias. “Previously, we relied on hired vehicles, which often caused delays due to lengthy procurement procedures. These delays sometimes hindered our ability to respond swiftly to emergencies.”

Investment in Capability
The new vehicles are a valuable addition to DMA’s resources, enhancing its ability to respond to disasters and conduct routine administrative duties. The Toyota twin-cab bakkies will primarily support fieldwork in rugged terrains, while the Toyota Fortuner SUV is intended for supervisory and coordination tasks.

“This investment demonstrates our commitment to improving service delivery and ensuring that the authority operates at its best capacity,” Mr. Ellias added.

Looking Ahead
The CEO further emphasized that the DMA is dedicated to continuous improvement in disaster response and management across Lesotho. The vehicles are part of broader efforts to strengthen the authority’s infrastructure and capabilities.

As the DMA takes strides toward more effective disaster management, the new fleet is expected to significantly enhance its mobility and overall performance, ultimately benefiting communities across the nation.
