King Letsie III Calls for Unity and Peace Among Lioli, Maroala and Mats’ekha Clans

King Letsie III has issued a heartfelt call for unity and peace among the Lioli, Maroala, and Mats’ekha clans, urging them to work together for the greater good of their families and the nation at large. His Majesty delivered this message during a national gathering held on Wednesday at Bela-Bela, where Basotho came together in solidarity to celebrate his birthday.

While the day was marked by prayers and thanksgiving, King Letsie III used the platform to highlight pressing social challenges facing the country, particularly the rising crime rate. He stressed that such issues cannot be ignored and called on the people to commit to regular prayer, emphasizing that peace can only thrive when communities are spiritually and socially engaged.

His Majesty praised the presence of children and youth at the celebration, noting that their involvement symbolizes hope for a better tomorrow. “We are celebrating today with the future of this country. Let us include them in our prayers so their dreams of a bright future can be revived,” he said.

He also urged families and community leaders to empower young people with sustainable opportunities that will enable them to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s growth and transformation.

Also speaking at the celebration was Principal Chief of Koeneng and Mapoteng, Chief Peete Lesaoana Peete, who echoed the King’s message. He encouraged Basotho to use the King’s birthday as a moment of personal and communal reflection and to draw inspiration from Moshoeshoe I, the founder of the Basotho nation and a pioneer of peace and unity.

Chief Peete further reminded the clans of King Letsie III’s continental role as the African Nutrition Champion. In this capacity, he urged communities to take agriculture seriously, emphasizing that no fields should be left fallow and that home gardens should be full of vegetables.

The commemorative event not only celebrated the King’s life but also reinforced messages of hope, unity, and national responsibility. As Lesotho continues to face social and economic challenges, the King’s words serve as a timely reminder of the strength that lies in collective action and shared purpose.
