Ha-Sole Village Benefits from Rural Electrification Project
Access to reliable electricity remains a significant challenge in many rural communities across Lesotho. However, Ha-Sole village in Mokhethoaneng is among the fortunate areas currently benefiting from the ongoing rural electrification project, which uses solar energy to improve access to power.
The electrification initiative, undertaken by the One Power Company, aims to bring solar-powered electricity to several rural villages, with Ha-Sole, Liphiring, and Ha-Jubili being the primary beneficiaries. The project is expected to be completed by April next year, providing much-needed energy to these communities.
Progress and Community Impact
Speaking about the ongoing progress, Ha-Sole Electoral Division (ED) Community Councilor, Mr. Zwane Tekane, highlighted that the project had begun in winter with the mobilization of equipment to the project sites. He further explained that three weeks into the contractor’s active engagement on-site, significant progress has already been made, particularly with the erection of electricity poles in Ha-Sole.
Mr. Tekane expressed his gratitude for the project, noting that the provision of electricity would have a transformative impact on the village. “This project is a game-changer for us,” he said, adding that it would improve daily living conditions, support small businesses, and enhance the community’s access to education and healthcare services.
A Shift to Solar Energy
The shift towards solar energy as part of the rural electrification project is a strategic move to address the energy needs of remote communities in a sustainable manner. Solar power is not only more accessible for off-grid locations but also more environmentally friendly and cost-effective in the long run.
With the completion of this project, residents in Ha-Sole, Liphiring, and Ha-Jubili will experience increased opportunities for development. The availability of electricity will likely improve local economies, help students study at night, and empower entrepreneurs to operate small businesses with the reliable power supply.
As the project progresses towards its completion in April 2025, Ha-Sole village and surrounding areas are set to witness a brighter future. The rural electrification initiative, led by the One Power Company, stands as a testament to Lesotho’s efforts to ensure sustainable and inclusive development across its rural communities, providing the foundation for improved livelihoods and opportunities for future generations.
