Farewell for Accountant General Malehlohonolo Mahase Celebrates Distinguished Career

Cadre accountants held a farewell party in Maseru yesterday for Accountant General Malehlohonolo Mahase, marking the conclusion of a long and distinguished career in public service.
Colleagues from the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning praised Mahase for her dedication, leadership, and professionalism. Acting Accountant General Hlompho Matsoso highlighted her contributions, saying she had worked tirelessly to elevate the profile of accountants from Lesotho.
“She held everything together and leaves us with the knowledge and skills to remain calm when challenges arise,” Matsoso said, urging other accountants to continue her legacy and carry the baton forward.
Mahase was appointed Accountant General in 2029. Throughout her career, she held significant positions at the National Health Trading Centre, Public Officers Fund Contribution, Queen Mamohato Memorial Hospital, and the National Drug Services Organisation.
In addition to her national roles, Mahase represented Lesotho on the Eastern and Southern Association of Accountants General, serving on its board. She was also the founding chairperson of the African Association of Accountants General until this month.
Mahase’s achievements extend internationally. She is a Mandela Washington Fellow from Georgia State University in the United States, reflecting her commitment to professional growth and leadership development.
The farewell event underscored Mahase’s impact on the accounting profession in Lesotho, her mentorship of colleagues, and her role in shaping sustainable financial management practices for the country.
