DIFA and Mohale’s Hoek Police Team Up to Host December Tournaments to Curb Crime

In an effort to reduce the high crime rate during the festive season, the District Football Association (DIFA) and Mohale’s Hoek Police Station are joining forces to host a series of tournaments in Taung this December. The initiative, which aims to engage the community and provide positive activities, will kick off on December 16 and conclude with the final games on December 25.

The collaboration between DIFA, the police, and the business community, including street vendors, was established following a recent meeting. The goal is to garner business support for the tournaments, which will feature not only football matches but also indigenous games like Mokhibo, Moraba-raba, and others. These traditional games are intended to engage a wider range of the community, promoting cultural activities while fostering a sense of unity.

Senior Inspector Thabiso Sututsa of the Mohale’s Hoek Police Station emphasized the importance of this initiative in deterring crime. “People will not have time to carry out criminal activities if focused on games,” Sututsa stated. He also underscored that tackling crime requires the collective effort of various stakeholders, adding that initiatives like these help divert attention from unlawful activities by offering constructive outlets for energy and enthusiasm.

The tournaments are expected to provide entertainment and bring the community together, while also supporting local businesses during the holiday season. By engaging youth and adults alike, the initiative aims to foster a safer and more vibrant festive period for the Taung community.
