EU Donates Eight Vehicles to Judiciary

The European Union (EU) has made a significant contribution to the judiciary of Lesotho by donating eight vehicles aimed at accelerating the wheel of justice in the country. The handover ceremony took place on September 5, where EU Head of Cooperation, Mr. Mario Varrenti, emphasized the importance of this initiative in enhancing justice delivery.

During the event, Varrenti highlighted the extensive collaboration between the EU and the government of Lesotho, which spans various sectors, including land management and youth skills development. He stressed that the progress made in these areas is rooted in the strength of Lesotho’s institutions. The donation of vehicles is seen as a crucial step in reinforcing the capacity of the judiciary to deliver justice effectively.

“The EU is committed to making justice more accessible, particularly for the poor and marginalized populations,” Varrenti stated. He reiterated the importance of collaboration with relevant ministries to ensure that the benefits of this initiative reach those who need it most.

In addition to the vehicle donation, Varrenti outlined several ongoing initiatives supported by the EU, including training programs for magistrates and investigative workshops for new recruits of the Directorate of Corruption and Economic Offences (DCEO). The EU is also providing office furniture for the judiciary, further enhancing its operational capabilities.

This donation reflects the EU’s broader commitment to supporting the rule of law and improving the judicial system in Lesotho. By equipping the judiciary with the necessary tools and resources, the EU aims to facilitate a more efficient justice system that upholds the rights of all citizens, particularly the vulnerable and underserved populations.
