Essential Documentation Required for Basic Education Strengthening Project Support

During a one-day gathering of parents and guardians of Maliepetsane High School learners on Wednesday, key requirements for households targeted by the Basic Education Strengthening Project (BESP) were clarified. The event highlighted the need for specific documentation to access financial support from the initiative.

Ms. Relebohile Mahamo, a Bursary Administrator from the Ministry of Gender, Youth and Social Development stationed in Botha-Bothe, addressed attendees, emphasizing the importance of having a National Identity Document (ID), Birth Certificate, and a formal school letter. These documents are essential for families seeking to benefit from the BESP’s once-off grant.

In her speech, Ms. Mahamo explained that while the government is already funding school fees for some learners for various reasons, the BESP, supported by the World Bank, encompasses multiple components aimed at enhancing educational opportunities. One of the notable benefits of the project is the M1500 top-up grant specifically designated for school uniforms, aimed at alleviating the financial burden on families.

Ms. Mahamo urged parents to ensure they have the necessary documentation prepared, as it is crucial for the efficient processing of grants and support from the BESP. She reiterated that the initiative aims to improve access to quality education and support for learners, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The gathering served as an informative session, allowing parents and guardians to ask questions and seek clarification on the BESP’s objectives and requirements. By providing clear guidelines on the documentation needed, the initiative seeks to streamline the application process and ensure that eligible households can access the support they need.

Overall, the BESP aims to strengthen the educational landscape in Lesotho, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to succeed academically, regardless of their economic circumstances. The support from both the government and the World Bank is instrumental in making this vision a reality, promoting a brighter future for the next generation.
