Matšepo Ramakoae
Honorable ‘Matŝepo-Molise Ramakoae is the Minister of Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations. She is a Member of the 10th Parliament for Matsieng Constituency representing the All Basotho Convention (ABC) political party. She was appointed as Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations on May 21, 2020, following the collapse of the 3rd Lesotho Coalition Government in May.
She holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the National University of Lesotho from 1977 to 1981 and a Master of Arts in Public Policy and Administration at the Hague University in the Netherlands from 1991 to 1992.
Previously, she served in the Public Service as a Civil Servant, a Cabinet Minister and Member of Parliament (MP). During her career as a Member of Parliament in the Kingdom of Lesotho, she has chaired different committees, which include being appointed to regional and continental parliaments chairing certain committees in those august bodies. These include Chairperson in the Prime Minister’s Ministries Portfolio Committee, Chairperson of the Women Parliamentarians Caucus, Chairperson of the Regional Women’s. She is passionate about Gender Issues and Women Empowerment.
While serving as a member of the Public Accountants Committee, she was instrumental in uncovering high profile corruption cases and the strengthening of the country’s Anti-Corruption Regime.
As a Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Communications, she oversaw the opening of the airspace and the establishment of private radio stations. She has also served as a Board Member in different institutions, including the Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA), which oversees the multi-billion project (Lesotho Highland Water Project) between the Kingdom of Lesotho and the Republic of South Africa.
