Vodacom Lesotho Foundation makes substantial donation to Seboche Hospital in Butha-Buthe post hailstorm damage

22nd, February, 2022 – Maseru. The Vodacom Lesotho Foundation holds true to their mandate and purpose by donating M1.2 million for the roof repairs required after Seboche Hospital sustained severe damage during a hailstorm in September 2021. The Chairman of the Board of Vodacom Lesotho Foundation, Mr John Matlosa, handed over the substantial sum in a press conference held in Butha-Buthe on Tuesday the 22 February 2022. In addition to the financial support, the Vodacom Lesotho Foundation has donated computer equipment worth M104, 718 to replace equipment that was damaged by resultant flooding of the hospital.
The destruction to the roof of the hospital, lead to flooding on the top and ground floors, damaging 61 rooms, computer equipment, shelving and carpeting. The damages sustained to the Primary Health Care (PHC) office, Administration block and Pediatric Ward was a major setback, rendering the hospital incapable of providing essential healthcare to the surrounding community. The loss of utility of the Seboche facility was devastating to the community at large placing the Botha-Bothe Government Hospital under pressure as a result of the overflow of patients.
In addition to the damage to the hospital, the exposure of the damaged asbestos roofing is a major health risk to staff, and needs critical, urgent and safe removal and replacement. The roof itself is more than 60 years old, having been built in 1962.
In this endevour, the Foundation has partnered with the Lesotho Defense Force (LDF) through the LDF Egeneering Unit to provide asbestors qualified handlers for safe removal of the current roofing as well as re – roofing the hospital with more morden roofing material. Once removed the asbestos will be stored safely until it can be safely disposed off.
The Foundation is greatful that the Command of the LDF heeded the call to partner by providing its officers to provide manpower to reroff the hospital while the Donation will go towards purchase of material. The health and well-being of Basotho is at the Foundation’s core beliefs. The Foundation will continue to partner with Government, non governmental organisations and and other private sector players, in positively impacting the lives of Basotho in the areas of Education, Health, Entrepreneurship, Acess & Inclusion and Gender Equality.
