Lesotho Hosts Successful Quality Physical Education Forum at Thaba-Bosiu

On October 18, 2025, Hon. Motlatsi Maqelepo, Minister of Tourism, Sports, Arts and Culture, officially closed the Quality Physical Education Forum at the historic Thaba-Bosiu Cultural Village. The event highlighted Lesotho’s commitment to promoting physical education and healthy lifestyles.

In his closing remarks, Hon. Maqelepo expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who contributed to the forum’s success. He stressed the importance of integrating quality physical education into national development strategies and encouraged continued efforts to advance physical activity, health, and well-being among young people in Lesotho and the wider region.

Keynote speaker Mr. Stanley Mutoya, CEO of the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5, commended the Government of Lesotho for its commitment and excellence in hosting the forum. He highlighted the government’s hospitality and dedication in fostering meaningful dialogue on physical education.

The forum brought together educationists, policymakers, sport administrators, and regional stakeholders to discuss strategies for enhancing physical education and fostering regional collaboration. Discussions emphasized the role of sport and physical activity in achieving broader social, educational, and health outcomes.

The Ministry of Education and Training, represented by Principal Secretary Mr. Ratšiu Majara, played a crucial role in supporting the forum alongside regional and international partners. Their involvement reinforced the collaborative effort to improve physical education standards and opportunities for youth across Lesotho.
