For immediate release14th May, 2020
In an unwavering support to the Government of Lesotho policy decision to introduce a wage subsidy programme disbursing M800.00 to individual in-dustrial workers, the Lesotho National Development Corporation (LNDC) continued efforts to ensure that deserving and most vulnerable industrial workers received the subsidy over the past two days.
It is with great pleasure that LNDC informs the public that industrialists employing close to 50,000 industrial workers and the LNDC have been engaged in facilitating wage subsidy programme payments to the equivalent of qualifying employees. To date, 45,370 industrial workers have been successfully paid the subsidy due to them. The remaining workers are likely to receive payments throughout today the 14th of May 2020 through to the 15th of May 2020.
The LNDC wishes to acknowledge the support rendered by the banking sector at large and the employers alike in facilitating payments to the benefi-ciaries of the wage subsidy programme. This initiative has indeed resonated very well with the LNDC on behalf of the Government of Lesotho. Collaboration portrayed in this noble initiative demonstrated unbelievable convergence of opinion to assist the most vulnerable industrial workers and as such saving the plight of Basotho amidst turbulent times.
The manufacturing sector remains the life blood of the Lesotho economy and the Government of Lesotho pledges its full commitment to lessen to the extent possible, the economic impact of COVID – 19 pandemic to this sector.
