Sasai Econet Financial Services Launches EcoCash Agents Campaign to Drive Financial Inclusion in Lesotho

Sasai Econet Financial Services (SEFS), a subsidiary of Econet Telecom Lesotho, has launched the EcoCash Agents Campaign, an exciting initiative designed to energize EcoCash’s agent network and advance financial inclusion throughout Lesotho. The campaign was officially launched yesterday at Lancers Inn in Maseru, bringing together stakeholders to recognize the pivotal role played by EcoCash Spache-fono agents in expanding access to digital financial services.
Running until 30 September, the EcoCash Agents Campaign is open to all active EcoCash agents and sub-agents across the country. Its primary goal is to increase weekly and monthly cash-in transactions by at least 20 percent, with generous cash rewards offered to those who meet or exceed this target.
Agents who achieve the transaction targets will be eligible for a range of prizes. Each week, one agent from each of Lesotho’s 10 districts will receive M1,000. Monthly, one standout agent from each of the three regions — North, Central, and South — will be awarded M10,000. The campaign will culminate in a grand prize of M100,000 for one exceptional agent. Additionally, new or reactivated agents who transact consistently for two months will qualify to enter the grand draw in the third month.
SEFS General Manager, Moeketsi Mafereka, expressed pride in launching a campaign that puts agents at the center of EcoCash’s growth. He emphasized that the initiative is more than a promotional effort; it is a recognition of the vital contributions EcoCash agents make to the mobile money ecosystem.
“This is not just another campaign. It is a celebration, a moment to shine a well-deserved spotlight on our EcoCash agents, who are the heart and soul of our mobile money ecosystem,” Mr Mafereka said at the launch.
He highlighted EcoCash’s transformative impact on Lesotho’s financial landscape over the past decade. EcoCash agents, he noted, are the brand’s ambassadors in both urban centers and remote villages, providing critical financial services that empower individuals and communities.
“These agents are the face of the brand. They enable Basotho to send and receive money, pay bills, purchase goods and services, and even save for emergencies,” Mr Mafereka said. “They are not just cash handlers — they are frontliners of financial inclusion.”
He added that EcoCash has evolved from a simple money transfer platform into a comprehensive suite of digital financial services supporting millions of users. The system now allows customers to pay bills, shop, access airtime and bundles, and manage business transactions — all through mobile money.
Mr Mafereka praised EcoCash agents as silent heroes and the backbone of customer experience. Through this campaign, SEFS is investing in their continued success and empowerment, helping ensure that no one is left behind in the growing digital economy.
He also stressed that financial inclusion extends beyond transactions to matters of security and dignity. In this regard, Mr Mafereka highlighted EcoSure, SEFS’s microinsurance product, which provides families with peace of mind by ensuring loved ones receive dignified burials.
The launch of the EcoCash Agents Campaign marks a significant step in SEFS’s mission to promote financial inclusion and economic empowerment across Lesotho. By recognizing and rewarding the hard work of its agents, SEFS aims to further strengthen its network and bring life-changing digital financial services to even more Basotho communities.
