Chevening Scholars from Lesotho Promote Sesotho on Global Language Platform

In a remarkable demonstration of cultural representation, two Chevening Scholars from Lesotho, Mr. Hlokomelang Rakojoana and Ms. Tlhaloso Mpopo, have stepped into the role of cultural ambassadors while studying abroad. Their recent participation in the uTalk program marks a significant milestone as Sesotho becomes the 159th language to be added to the platform’s extensive language-learning offerings.
Mr. Rakojoana is currently pursuing a degree in Data Science at Brunel University of London, while Ms. Mpopo is studying Law at Nottingham Trent University. Their involvement in uTalk highlights their commitment to preserving and promoting the Sesotho language on an international scale.
Founded in 1991 by entrepreneurs Dick Haveson and Andrew Ashe, uTalk is a widely used language-learning platform designed for individuals looking to master key words and phrases in various languages. With its user-friendly interface, the app is particularly beneficial for beginners seeking to build a strong foundation and for intermediate learners looking to refine their vocabulary and pronunciation. The inclusion of Sesotho ensures that speakers and learners alike can engage with the language in an accessible and modern way.
This initiative not only celebrates Sesotho’s linguistic heritage but also reinforces the importance of preserving indigenous languages in a rapidly globalizing world. Through their participation, Mr. Rakojoana and Ms. Mpopo continue to champion Lesotho’s rich cultural identity, ensuring that Sesotho finds its place among the world’s widely recognized languages.
