Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening its relationship with Africa, describing the two regions as “good friends, partners, and brothers” with a shared future. His remarks were made ahead of the 25th anniversary of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), an event that marks a significant milestone in the longstanding partnership between China and Africa.
The upcoming anniversary of FOCAC highlights the growing bond between China and African nations, built on mutual respect, trust, and cooperation. Minister Wang Yi emphasized that China remains dedicated to supporting Africa’s development and fostering an even closer relationship for the future.
Over the past 25 years, China has played a crucial role in the development of African nations. China’s investment in infrastructure projects has been especially impactful, with the country assisting in the construction or renovation of over 10,000 kilometers of roads and more than 10,000 kilometers of railways across the continent. These projects have significantly improved connectivity and trade, helping African economies grow and flourish.
In addition to infrastructure development, China has also been instrumental in advancing agricultural innovation in Africa. Wang Yi highlighted the success story of a Gambian farmer who benefited from China’s hybrid rice technology. As a gesture of gratitude, the farmer sent a bag of rice to Hunan Province in China, symbolizing the fruitful cooperation and mutual benefits that have resulted from this partnership.
Wang Yi’s remarks underscore the long-term vision for Sino-African relations, with a focus on strengthening economic ties, fostering development, and ensuring mutual prosperity.
