MAFSN and SADP II Train Letlapeng Resource Centre Nutrition Club on Food Security and Nutrition

In a bid to enhance food security and improve nutrition, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Nutrition (MAFSN), with support from the Smallholder Agriculture Development Project (SADP) II, is conducting a four-day training for Letlapeng Resource Centre Nutrition Club members at Thifa.
The training, which commenced on Monday and runs until Thursday, focuses on equipping participants with essential knowledge on proper nutrition, food handling, preparation, and preservation. Speaking at the event, MAFSN District Nutrition Officer Mrs. Lebohang Monyamane-Nthake highlighted the significance of nutrition in overall health.
“Proper nutrition boosts immunity, lowers the risk of heart disease, and helps prevent certain cancers,” she explained.
SADP Project Field Officer Mr. Leqheku Letsoisa underscored the importance of food preservation, noting that many farmers struggle to store their surplus produce for long-term use.
“Farmers produce large quantities of food, but many struggle to extend its shelf life. This training ensures they can enjoy their produce year-round,” he said.
As part of the initiative, SADP has also provided essential food preservation ingredients to support farmers in sustaining their food supplies. The training aims to empower communities with practical skills that promote long-term food security and better nutrition.
