Labour Act 2024 to Promote Fair Practices in Workplaces

Employers and workers are urged to operate in accordance with the Labour Act 2024 to foster fair labour practices in workplaces across the country. This call was made by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Mr. Ts’eliso Mokhotsi, during the official launch of the Polihali Bargaining Forum Constitution at the Polihali Operations Centre in Malingoaneng, Mokhotlong, on Thursday.
Mr. Mokhotsi highlighted that the Labour Act, which was passed last year, aims to promote collective bargaining as a mechanism for addressing labour disputes between Employers’ Organisations, workers, and Trade Unions. The Act seeks to ensure fair negotiations and create a conducive environment for resolving conflicts, particularly those arising from wages and working conditions.
The Polihali Bargaining Forum Constitution is expected to serve as a platform where employers and workers can collaboratively establish a workplace code of conduct tailored to their specific needs. It will also enable them to outline strategies for addressing labour disputes effectively. According to the Minister, this initiative underscores the importance of constructive dialogue and mutual respect in fostering harmonious industrial relations.
Mr. Mokhotsi emphasized that such platforms are essential in bridging the gap between employers and employees, allowing both parties to negotiate on equal footing. He reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting mechanisms that enhance fairness, transparency, and accountability in labour practices.
The launch of the Polihali Bargaining Forum Constitution is a significant step towards realizing the objectives of the Labour Act 2024, marking progress in strengthening workplace relations and promoting social justice in employment settings.
