Over 25,000 Voters Re-Registered in Quthing Amid Ongoing IEC Campaign
As the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) continues its re-registration campaign in Quthing, a total of 25,452 electors have already updated their registration details. The campaign, which began in August 2024, is set to run until the end of next month, with the aim of ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the electors’ database for future elections.
Mrs. Alice Ramaema, the District IEC Manager, shared that the initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen the electoral process by keeping voter records current and accurate. “The re-registration campaign is crucial in maintaining a trustworthy and up-to-date electors’ database, ensuring that every eligible voter is accounted for and can participate in upcoming elections,” Mrs. Ramaema explained.
The IEC has set up registration centres in various areas across the district, specifically in four constituencies. These centres are designed to facilitate the process for voters to verify and update their information. However, recognizing that some individuals face challenges in accessing these centres, IEC staff are going the extra mile by reaching out directly to voters who are unable to travel to the centres.
“We are also sending our staff door-to-door to help electors who may be elderly, disabled, or otherwise unable to visit the registration centres on their own. It’s important that everyone has the opportunity to re-register, regardless of their circumstances,” Mrs. Ramaema added.
The re-registration effort is expected to enhance voter turnout and participation in the electoral process, ensuring that all registered voters are eligible to cast their ballots. The ongoing campaign is receiving positive feedback from the community, with many praising the IEC’s efforts to ensure inclusivity and accessibility.
As the deadline approaches, IEC officials encourage all eligible voters who have not yet re-registered to visit the designated centres or reach out to IEC staff for assistance. The hope is that the successful completion of this campaign will contribute to a more accurate voter roll, paving the way for a smooth and fair election process in the future.
