A powerful hailstorm has caused widespread destruction in Motse-Mocha, a village in Qacha’s Nek, leaving residents grappling with significant damage to their homes, crops, and infrastructure. The severe weather event struck with little warning, leaving behind a trail of devastation across the community.
Several streets in the area became impassable due to extreme waterlogging, while many homes were flooded. The relentless downpour soaked everything in its path, with clothes, furniture, and household items left drenched. Residents were seen opening doors and windows to clear the musty air that filled their homes, as the damp conditions worsened.
When the Agency visited the area, many were hard at work mopping up the water that had flooded their living spaces. Some residents were still in the process of assessing the full extent of the damage. Collapsed ceilings, waterlogged wardrobes, and ruined crops were some of the most visible consequences of the storm. The agricultural community, in particular, has been hit hard, with plantations destroyed by the heavy rainfall and hailstones.
