Minister Mofosi Pledges Feedback on Seed and Fertiliser Supply Before Christmas Recess
The Minister of Agriculture, Food Security, and Nutrition, Mr. Thabo Mofosi, has assured that he will provide an update on the supply of seeds and fertilisers before the National Assembly adjourns for the Christmas recess.
This promise was made in response to a Point of Order raised by Mr. Katleho Mabeleng, Member of Parliament for the Hloahloeng Constituency, during a session of the National Assembly. Mr. Mabeleng highlighted the urgent need for clarity on the issue, referencing a previous motion he had moved, which pointed out that farmers were yet to access fertilisers despite government assurances of availability.
Minister Mofosi acknowledged challenges in the effective supply chain for fertilisers but assured the House that the government was actively addressing the matter. “We are working on the issue with urgency and hope that there shall be light at the end of the tunnel,” he stated.
The delay in fertiliser supply has raised concerns among farmers, who are already grappling with the planting season’s tight schedule. Many fear that continued delays could negatively impact crop yields, thereby threatening food security in the region.
Farmers and stakeholders will be eagerly awaiting Minister Mofosi’s feedback, as it could determine the next steps for agricultural productivity and food sustainability in the country. The Minister’s commitment to resolving the issue signals the government’s recognition of the urgency of the matter.
With the Christmas recess fast approaching, the agricultural sector and the broader public will be watching closely to see how the government fulfills its promises to support farmers in this critical period.
