Lesotho Motorists Urged to Exercise Caution as Snow Continues to Fall

As the snow continues to blanket Lesotho, motorists are being urged to exercise extreme caution on the roads. Road Safety Officer, Mr. Setsoto Putsoa, has appealed to drivers to slow down and maintain safe distances from other vehicles to allow ample time for stopping.

“Motorists must be aware that the road is slippery due to snow and must be patient with one another and avoid overtaking,” Mr. Putsoa emphasized in an interview with LENA. He further advised drivers to switch on their lights to increase visibility and encouraged those who do not need to travel to stay indoors.

Despite the snow beginning to fall in the highlands over the weekend, Mr. Putsoa reported that no accidents or fatalities have been recorded due to the current weather conditions.

Meanwhile, LENA has observed that the snow has been falling since morning in Maseru, yet the city remains bustling with activity. Traffic flowed normally during the morning hours, and students whose schools remain open were seen making their way to classes.

The Lesotho Meteorological Services have forecasted continued rain and snow in various parts of the country, with Maseru expecting a maximum temperature of 10 degrees Celsius. Motorists are encouraged to remain vigilant and prioritize safety as the weather conditions persist.
