Nthomeng Majara Leads Lesotho Delegation on Cultural Tour at Kuriftu African Village

The Right Honourable Nthomeng Majara led the Lesotho delegation on a guided tour of Kuriftu African Village following an invitation extended to Lesotho’s Head of Delegation attending the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa. The tour offered a chance to explore the upgraded Lesotho Suite and the area prepared for the installation of one of Lesotho’s historical icons within the resort’s Garden of African Figures. The visit emphasized cultural exchange among African nations and highlighted Lesotho’s commitment to promoting its heritage on continental platforms. According to the Permanent Representative of Lesotho to Ethiopia, Her Excellency Ntšiuoa Sekete, the experience showcased Lesotho’s cultural contributions and strengthened ties with host institutions. The delegation engaged with resort officials to discuss ways of enhancing cultural collaboration and representation.

At the conclusion of the tour, Deputy Prime Minister Majara presented the Operations Director, Mahlet Belete, with a Basotho blanket and the iconic Mokorotlo hat as symbols of Lesotho’s heritage and appreciation. The gesture reinforced the country’s dedication to cultural diplomacy and served as a token of friendship between Lesotho and Ethiopia. The Embassy of the Kingdom of Lesotho in Ethiopia played a key role in facilitating and coordinating the visit, ensuring smooth participation and engagement. The event aligns with Lesotho’s broader strategy to use cultural diplomacy to strengthen bilateral relations, showcase national identity, and foster mutual understanding across Africa. Through initiatives like this, Lesotho continues to highlight its history, traditions, and artistic heritage on an international stage.

The tour also provided an opportunity to explore potential collaborations in cultural tourism and heritage promotion. By sharing Lesotho’s icons and traditions with a wider audience, the delegation aimed to inspire greater appreciation for African cultures and encourage cross-border partnerships. The experience underscored the value of cultural representation in international diplomacy and the role of national symbols in building lasting relationships. Lesotho’s active participation in events at Kuriftu African Village demonstrates the country’s commitment to fostering dialogue, exchange, and collaboration that goes beyond political engagements. These efforts contribute to a deeper understanding of Lesotho’s culture while reinforcing Africa-wide solidarity and cooperation.
