Basotho Enterprises Embrace Structured Growth Through UNDP Impact Training

Basotho ventures are entering a new era of structured growth and measurable impact with the launch of the 2026 Growth Stage Impact Ventures (GSIV) Programme training. The initiative was officially opened by Mr Taye Amssalu, Deputy Resident Representative of the UNDP, who emphasized the private sector’s pivotal role in driving sustainable development. The training aims to strengthen growth-stage businesses by equipping them with practical skills to integrate sustainability, improve governance, and track measurable impact. By focusing on long-term value creation, the programme ensures that enterprises are prepared to meet the expectations of investors and stakeholders in an increasingly transparent global market. This approach signals a shift toward a more strategic, data-driven model for business growth in Lesotho.
The three-day training brings together participants from a variety of sectors, providing a collaborative environment for knowledge exchange and peer learning. Grounded in the UNDP SDG Impact Standards, the programme delivers comprehensive guidance on Impact Measurement and Management (IMM). Participants learn to embed sustainability into their core business strategies, ensuring that social, environmental, and economic outcomes are considered alongside financial performance. The training also emphasizes the importance of robust governance structures and impact management systems, enabling businesses to operate with accountability and transparency. Through practical exercises and case studies, participants gain hands-on experience in measuring and communicating the tangible value of their operations.
One of the central objectives of the GSIV Programme is to align business operations with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By connecting daily business practices to global development priorities, Basotho enterprises can contribute meaningfully to areas such as poverty reduction, education, climate action, and gender equality. The training encourages participants to think beyond profit, integrating social and environmental considerations into decision-making processes. This holistic approach enhances the reputation of businesses while opening access to impact-focused investors who increasingly demand evidence of measurable contributions. Aligning with SDGs also positions enterprises to benefit from emerging opportunities in green finance, corporate partnerships, and international markets.
The programme further addresses the growing expectation for businesses to communicate their impact effectively. Participants are guided on how to quantify and report social and environmental outcomes, ensuring that stakeholders can assess performance with clarity and confidence. This capability enhances investor trust, supports responsible scaling, and provides a competitive advantage in both domestic and regional markets. The IMM framework enables enterprises to capture data that informs strategy, drives continuous improvement, and demonstrates commitment to long-term value creation. By equipping Basotho ventures with these skills, the GSIV Programme ensures that businesses are not only investment-ready but fully impact-ready.
The 2026 GSIV training represents a strategic milestone in the evolution of Lesotho’s private sector. By integrating sustainability, governance, and impact measurement into growth-stage enterprises, the programme strengthens the country’s capacity to achieve inclusive and responsible economic development. Basotho businesses are now better prepared to scale operations, attract responsible investment, and contribute to national and global development objectives. The initiative positions Lesotho as a hub for sustainable enterprise growth, demonstrating that measurable impact and financial success can advance hand in hand. With the foundations laid by this training, growth-stage ventures are set to achieve scalable, responsible, and lasting development.
