Econet Telecom Lesotho and Global Events Announce Dates for APICA Festival

Econet Telecom Lesotho, in partnership with Global Events, has officially revealed the dates for the highly anticipated annual Econet Africa Picnic and Camping (APICA) Festival. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Econet’s Acting General Manager for Public Relations and Customer Experience, Mrs. Puleng ’Mathabo Masoabi, confirmed that this year’s festival will be held earlier than usual.
The 7th edition of the festival is scheduled from February 27 to March 1 at Ha Ramabanta Trading Post. The earlier timing aims to avoid overlapping with Easter holiday celebrations, ensuring a more accessible schedule for attendees.
Mrs. Masoabi highlighted that the festival goes beyond entertainment and cultural celebration. She explained that APICA provides a platform for local artists to showcase their talent and network with international performers. This approach aligns with Econet’s goal of supporting the local creative industry.
Global Events, the official event facilitator, shared details about the festival program. Mr. Montoeli ’Moleli stated that activities will kick off on Friday with a Kids’ Corner, designed to entertain children. That evening will also feature a comedy night, providing a variety of experiences for festival-goers.
Mr. Phomola Lebota, representing the Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation (LTDC), emphasized the festival’s potential to boost Lesotho’s tourism sector. He noted that events like APICA help showcase Lesotho’s cultural and tourism assets internationally. He also stressed that collaboration between the government and private sector is key to promoting tourism and creating economic opportunities.
The festival lineup includes both local and international artists, featuring performers such as Mookho Moqhali, Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuze, Mawhoo, Kelvin Momo, Sannere, Citizen, Omali Themba, Dony B, T-Spoon, and DJ Tseko. This diverse lineup reflects the festival’s commitment to celebrating music, culture, and artistic collaboration.
Econet Telecom Lesotho is the main partner for this festival, investing around M7 million, with this year’s financing reported at M1.5 million. The festival is expected to attract large audiences, boost tourism, and strengthen Lesotho’s cultural profile.
The Econet APICA Festival continues to grow as a key cultural event, offering entertainment, networking, and tourism opportunities for Lesotho and beyond.
