Lesotho Leads Africa’s Digital Agenda at Pre-WSIS+20 Meeting in New York

On December 14, 2025, Lesotho played a key role in shaping Africa’s position on the global digital agenda during the Africa Region’s Pre-WSIS+20 Information Meeting held in New York, United States of America. The event brought together high-level representatives from African countries to discuss strategies for the upcoming World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS+20) global review.

Opening the meeting, the Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation, Honourable Nthati Moorosi, called on African nations to adopt a single, unified position. She stressed that Africa’s priorities, including improving connectivity, advancing a green digital future, and promoting inclusive development, require collective action and coordinated policy efforts.

Lesotho’s participation highlighted the country’s growing leadership in continental and global digital governance. The Minister noted that strong technical coordination, led by the Principal Secretary, Mr Kanono Leronti Ramashamole, in collaboration with African Union structures and regional partners, has positioned Lesotho as a key player in digital policy discussions.

The meeting emphasized the importance of African unity in negotiations, ensuring that the continent’s voice is effectively represented on issues such as digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, and sustainable technology development. Lesotho’s approach demonstrates the country’s commitment to driving regional collaboration and leveraging digital innovation to achieve socioeconomic development goals.
