Her Majesty Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso Holds First Official Engagement With Rwanda Ministry Of Health

On December 3, 2025, Her Majesty Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso conducted her first official engagement with the Ministry of Health in the Republic of Rwanda during a meeting held in Kigali. The visit focused on observing Rwanda’s health system advancements and exploring opportunities for knowledge exchange.

Her Majesty highlighted that Lesotho, through the Ministry of Health, had noted Rwanda’s significant progress in strengthening its health systems. She observed that Rwanda had established a system that enables efficient vaccine procurement, ensuring that vaccines are readily available when needed.

The Queen acknowledged that Rwanda’s achievements were not immediate. She recalled the country’s past challenges, including a devastating conflict that claimed nearly one million lives. She emphasised that today’s progress is the result of national unity, reconciliation, and sustained hard work.

Honourable Selibe Mochoboroane, Minister of Health, stated that the ministry had taken steps to send health professionals to Rwanda to learn from the country’s advanced systems. He noted that Rwanda’s geographic proximity to Lesotho makes such cooperation cost-effective and practical.

Minister Mochoboroane also highlighted Rwanda’s advancements in agriculture, noting that the benefits of bilateral cooperation extend beyond the health sector. He suggested that the Ministry of Agriculture could similarly adopt lessons from Rwanda’s progress.

This engagement marks Her Majesty Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso’s first official trip to Rwanda and underscores Lesotho’s commitment to learning from regional success stories to enhance national development in health, agriculture, and related sectors.
